Donate Yourself to Science

This website isn't just another time-waster. By participating, you'll be contributing to scientific research on moral psychology. YourMorals.org, created by five social psychologists, provides short tests of your ethics, values and morality and even offers instant results that measure how your judgments compare to those of others who completed the test. Registration is free and takes just a few minutes. Once you're in, you can take over 30 different tests that measure all different levels of morality, including your everyday judgments, the ease with which you feel disgust, your inclination towards vengeance, your political and spiritual attitudes, and much more. You may be surprised by what you learn!

The Spirit of the Season

It's that time of year-the time when we all start asking that age old question: Should I give my boss a holiday gift? And if so, what should I give?? This website is just what you're looking for. It's called TheGiftionary and it's an online resource for finding the perfect gift for anyone on your list. Select (or search by) a category, an occasion, the recipient, or the city and you'll be given a list of great gift options that meet your specific needs. This site is relatively new so it's not as robust as it could be, but we're expecting great things in the future. Keep it bookmarked and drop by for every gift giving occasion.

Just in Time for Resolution Season

The dawn of a New Year always sparks the dreaded January diet. Instead of running out to buy a new gym membership, why not join Simplefit.org? This website is a 100% free fitness community that provides support, nutrition advice, and personalized training plans based on your fitness needs. Plus, it utilizes bodyweight exercises that can be done at home (things like push-ups, squats, and pull-ups) and encourages you to post your progress to the group, which can be very motivating for us competitive types. The site is nothing fancy, but it seems like a fun place to find some good information for improving your health. So check it out-what have you got to lose? Maybe a few pounds put on over the holidays...? I'm just sayin'.

Digital Music Management

I recently decided to organize my iTunes library and realized that the process was much more difficult than I thought it was going to be. I had probably 200 songs that were untitled in there. So, in theory, I was going to have to listen to each song, figure out the title, the artist, and the album and manually enter that information in. And that would just give me the minimum amount of info to make my library functional. There would still be missing cover art, dates, and more. A friend introduced me to Tune Up, a downloadable application that (magically!) does all of this for you! I bought the $30 lifetime subscription and it was 100% worth every penny. In about two hours, my entire library was pristine. Every song is now correctly labeled with cover art. It was so easy to use and darn cheap. If you're sick of looking at an unorganized iTunes library but fixing it on your own sounds too time consuming, grab Tune Up. You'll thank me for it.

OA Retro: How to Map a Project

As the New Year approaches, you may find yourself making big plans for 2010. Of course, in order to reach any big goal, you need a map to show you how to get there. As it happens, one of my favorite tools for planning is called Project Mapping (or Mind Mapping). This article is a golden oldie, outlining the ways in which mapping helps organize ideas and providing the step-by-step process for doing it.
