Around the Web: Put Your Face on It!
Monitor My Minutes...Please!
It happens to me almost every day: "I'll just check out Facebook for 10 teensy-tiny minutes." And, before I realize it, 30 minutes have gone by and I'm officially sucked in. MinutesPlease.com was created for Internet junkies like me. If you've got the same problem, be sure to check it out. The concept is simple: You enter the website you want to visit and specify the amount of time you want to stay. The application will then open a new window with the site, and when the timer runs out, it will automatically close. When you're on the site, you can still browse around as you normally would. So, clicking to a different page or site won't affect the application's ability to monitor you. While I'm sure this is a highly effective productivity tool, I can already see myself hating this application.
Networking for Bookworms
Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm a complete nerd. Reading is my favorite thing to do, which is one of the reasons why I love Web treasure-hunting so much. Finding a fabulous blog is like stumbling upon a great book you never knew existed. Of course, since I found BookArmy, I no longer stumble around in search of my next book selection. This is social networking just for bookworms. You can browse books, read reviews by fellow members, share your own reviews, and even watch video interviews with authors and participate in group discussions and events. There's so much on this website, I haven't even scratched the surface. Book-lovers will be hooked right away and, if the slogan holds true, you'll never read a bad book again.
Driving Me Crazy
I have a confession to make: I once didn't change the oil in my Corolla for over a year. And, you know what? It was perfectly fine. The mechanic told me Toyotas are resilient and, though I shouldn't make a habit out of it, the oil thing was no big deal. Who knew? Of course, now that I've found DriverSide, I'll (hopefully) be a little more responsible. This site is perfect for those of us who own cars but don't really know anything about the care and maintenance of them. Here, you can find tons of money-saving tips to help you avoid overpaying the mechanic. From lease payments to choosing the right accessories, this website answers all of your burning questions about car ownership.
You're Famous, Baby!
I have fallen in LOVE with PhotoFunia though - beware - it's a complete waste of time. This site lets you quickly and easily put yourself on the cover of a magazine, a billboard, a $100 bill, even Mount Rushmore. It's too much fun.
OA Retro: Top 10 Must-Have Professional Development Books
In honor of my nerdom, I thought I'd share this article that outlines my top 10 books in the genre of professional development. I would love to hear which ones I missed so, if you have a favorite and you don't see it listed here, be sure to add on in the discussion section.
