Sustain Yourself

It's no secret that the "green" movement has really caught on. MakeMeSustainable.com is just one of many great, new resources out there designed to help users learn how to make their daily routines more environmentally friendly. It's a tool for both learning and taking action. Use the Carbon and Energy Portfolio Manager to visualize your individual "carbon footprint" and then implement the sustainable solutions offered that empower you to reverse that impact. The site also includes a forum for discussion and knowledge-exchange. If you're a greenie, be sure to join OA's Go Green club, as well.

Dear Future Self...

Do you ever wish you had a way to travel forward in time to make sure your future self doesn't forget something critically important? Well, welcome to the future, my friends! FutureMail is here. Now, you can send messages to yourself and have them delivered on any date and time you choose. It's like having your very own time machine. And it's totally free (How much does a DeLorean cost these days?).

Treasure Hunt

If you're a lover of rare, used and out-of-print books, I have a treasure for you! Biblio.com is an absolutely amazing website, full of fabulous finds. Just like any independent corner bookstore in any community (which is becoming rare itself these days), this website carries an eclectic mix of titles and a varied collection of work, ranging from rare first editions (priced in the thousands) to everyday, gently used bestsellers (generally going for less than the cost of shipping). Personally, I enjoy browsing the antique and vintage collectible children's books.

Take a Peek

If you're in the market for a new job, you may be wondering how you can get a sneak peek inside an organization before you decide to apply for a position. Glassdoor.com is just what you're looking for. As the name suggests, this website is all about taking a look inside before stepping through the door. It allows employees to anonymously post company salaries, reviews and interviews and, at present, there are over 23,000 companies included. So, the next time you're interested in a position, run it through the Glassdoor search engine first and see what other employees are saying. Take a look at the salary ranges, and - if you decide to go for that interview - see what kinds of questions they're asking.

OA Retro: Why Everyone Needs a Vacation

With the summer months approaching, I thought it would be a good time to review the many benefits of vacations. If you haven't planned yours yet, get some days on the calendar! Need help convincing your boss? Print out this article and "accidentally" leave it on his desk...
