The 6 Worst Shoes to Wear to Work

As a predominantly female occupation, office professionals battle a work load as well as fashion. While shoes are usually seen as an accessory, they can make or break an outfit as well as your career. We all make terrible decisions every now and again when it comes to our clothes; however picking a shoe that suits the office as well as your foot is a challenge that's not easy to overcome. Check out the worst shoes to wear to work.

6. Sneakers

Sneakers have come a long way in the corporate world. They've certainly gained more respect and acceptance, but I'm putting them on the list. It's not the 80's anymore ladies. While it's completely understandable to wear sneakers if you walk to work, bring a change of shoes with you. I thoroughly despise seeing women in a dark suit with white sneakers. It irks me to the core.

5. Dirty or torn shoes

This may seem obvious, but sometimes it's hard for us to notice that our shoes are in bad shape. Check the sides around the heels for scuffs that are commonly overlooked. Scuffs can usually be buffed out with some shoe polish, but if you tend to buy cheaper shoes, it may be to your benefit to just get another pair.

4. Loud shoes

We've all had a pair of these. I personally have a pair of gorgeous Coach heels that are just too darn loud. Walking on carpet is fine, but as soon as I step on tile or stone, you can hear me from a mile away. They are annoying and they make me feel self-conscious.

3. Extremely high heels

Ridiculously high heels can look...well...trampy rather than professional. Besides, we all know how difficult it is to walk in those things. You know the first time you roll your ankle in front of that cute guy in IT, you're going to regret it. You're better off in a 3 inch heel that allows you to remain limber and light on your toes.

2. Over embellished shoes

I know we all sometimes get a little carried away with the sequins, studs, and metallic embellished shoes, but save them for the outfits that deserve it. Attracting too much attention to your foot will usually detract from your professionalism. Keep it simple.

1. Flip flops

You don't work on the beach! While many of us love our flip flops and can be seen on any normal day wearing them, they aren't for the office. No matter what you're wearing or how pretty the flip fops are, it's just not professional. I am definitely guilty of wearing flip flops to work, but in my defense, the office was very casual. Unfortunately, this is not the same in most businesses, so dress it up a bit.
