Today's Internet browser gets bombarded with ads all the time, and most of them are quickly ignored. Search Engine Optimization is important so that you come up in the top of Google and your industries specific search engines.

Organic posting on blogs and articles are probably the best way to go nowadays as people would rather hear something from you personally, rather than just marketing pitch. Be careful not to spam. Only post what is relevant to the content of the blog and try to contribute, rather than just sell.

Be known on social networks and especially ones for your industry, but of course be on LinkedIn as it is the #1 business network.

The days of blasting ads everywhere are dwindling down, and it is turning into having your eyes out there for opportunities to present your product/service in a way that people will want to hear about it.

Good luck.

I agree if you post on blogs or forums on sites, make sure that you do it in a manner that flows with the context of the site. Don't just spam your information out there. I know several start ups that are wrestling with this issue, they need to get the word out about their site, thru networking, forums etc. but it has to look natural.
