Re: The Top 10 Must-Have Professional Development Books
Hi Chrissy - I have had the opportunity to read all of these books except "First Break All the Rules" - these are all very good choices. I will pick up "First Break All the Rules" and look forward to reading it. I have found two other books to be very thought provoking. "Play to Win" by Larry Wilson and Hersch Wilson, provides a fresh look at how to deal with the difficult questions in both life and business. The methodology (part psychological) helps give clarity on how to shape your decisions. "Zentreprenuerism" by Allan Holender is different (you like it or don't like it - either way it is great fodder for enlightened discussion). This quote from Langara College explains the book in a nutshell, "Enlightened Capitalism". Allan Holendar explains how western enterprises and business people can implement eastern philosophies in their search for more meaningful work and find ethical paths to lasting prosperity. Very interesting reads.

GeeBee - I'm so excited to pick up Zentreprenuerism (though I'm not sure I can say it out loud...)It sounds really interesting! I've never even heard of it. Let me know what you think of First, Break All the Rules. You should also think about joining the OA Book Club. I will be looking for someone to "host a meeting" soon (which just means to pick a book and write a review). Perhaps you could do that for one of the two books you recommended...? Let me know if you're interested.
Also, I added links to your posting so others can click through to read about the books on Amazon.

Re: The Top 10 Must-Have Professional Development Books
Always looking for great business and professional development books. All of these on the list Chrissy, are great choices. I keep Dale Carnegie's on my night stand! Pages are flagged, it's worn thin!! Also, Covey's is a classic, and Good to Great is a great book to read to understand how the 'higher ups' need to think. We actually did a complete management team project around that book at my last company. I learned a lot.

I will also put in a plug for my book, When Work Becomes You - It's All About the Fit! - Although not on the classic list as yet, it is written from my career experiences and focuses on 6 key attributes for success in the workplace. It's a quick read, too! OK. My plug is done.
