Certifications
In college I was a member of two very notable business organization chapters. Right now, I am not working in either field don't really see myself going back into those fields. I was looking on the IAAP website and saw they offer CAP exams. I would really like to get a certification. Has anyone gone through the training with IAAP or any other organizations to get a certification? What programs did you use?

Thanks!

I have been a member of the IAAP for 4 years and I am currently my chapter's membership chair. It has been a rewarding experience. Not only do you get to network and build alliances with others in similar careers, you get to attend and participate in professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences.

I am scheduled to sit for the CAP exam in May 2009. The test is administered twice a year - November and May. As a member, you get to participate in study groups within your chapter and also online groups. There are other certifications as well such as the MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) that you can take; as a member you are introduced into a world of professional development opportunities. I highly recommend the IAAP.

After doing this for 20 years I decided to go for my CPS/CAP.

I'm going to study for one year for the CPS and then try for the CAP part a year later.

That's the plan, but it's flexible.

I think IAAP is a valuable resource for all assistants. I was active when I worked for AT&T and have recently rejoined.

I have completed the CAP certification, and it has paid off!

It is a self-study type of certification but there are materials out there to study with. Also, your local IAAP chapter probably has a study group going that you can probably attend. You can find a local chapter by going to www.iaap-hq.org .

Re: Certifications
I have completed the CAP certification and it has been very helpful to me. I am a member of IAAP and our chapter has a study group for the exams. You don't have to be a member to gain the certification or use the study group.
