No, I don't think you're opening a Pandora's box. I think the most important thing is to maintain professionalism. Most likely, having framed pictures of you doing shots in Cabo (ala "The Party Girl") wouldn't send the right message. But, I do think it's possible to showcase your personality in a professional manner.

For instance, I have a rally towel from when the Philadelphia Phillies (go Phillies!!!) won the World Series last year that hangs in my cubicle. As a "Sports Enthusiast," I'm showing my personality - but in an understated way. I would recommend having no more than 2 or 3 pieces of cube flair that specifically showcases your personality.

Also, "Office Pranksters" should make sure that the jokes and gadgets they feature in their cubicles couldn't be misconstrued as offensive. That would certainly send the wrong message to managers and coworkers.

The bottom-line: Take note of your manager's office/cubicle. If it showcases his/her personality, then I think you're free to decorate your workspace as you like (within reason, obviously). However, if your boss keeps his/her workspace bare and uses minimal decorations, I would be cautious of showasing too many flair.

But, if you're the "Perfectionist" described in this article, keep up the good work! Most likely, your boss and coworkers are already impressed with your cube style and organizational skills. (I aspire to be like this..but often fall short!)
