Re: Tips for Interviewing with Executives
Great tips and interview advice. Can I use these tips in my business class and training seminars? In my volunteer work with women returning to the workforce I advise them to take a nice black portfolio into the interview with executives which contains their resume. I go so far as to tell them to check their purse. If it's big, bulky and worn, leave it in the car or at home. Walking in with a nice portfolio and pen will send a great message.
And, leave your cell phone in the car! Executives are constantly interrupted, but they want their assistants to be fully focused on them - nothing worse than having your sister call mid interview to ask how the interview is going! I agree totally on your thoughts about projecting a well mannered, professional attitude. This was a terrific article. __________________

Re: Tips for Interviewing with Executives
These tips are fantastic for interviewing with an executive. Many times I am asked to prescreen interview perspective EA candidates. Tip for interviewing with a peer - show a willingness to collaborate, don't lie and say there is nothing about your current job you dislike (come on, almost everyone doesn't enjoy filing!), stay on topic and be prepared.
Good luck to those currently seeking a position. |

Re: Tips for Interviewing with Executives
I always take a portfolio with me when I interview, and I open it up to a pad so I can take notes while the interviewer is talking. It allows me to keep track of things I want to elaborate on without interrupting them.

Re: Tips for Interviewing with Executives
All good tips. I would also add that you should be prepared to ASK questions. Do your homework and research the company you are interviewing with. An interview is a two-way communication. You don't want to leave without having a clear understanding of the position, the person's expectations, and basic company structure. Unless asked, leave any discussion of salary off the table.
