Looking for a Job? Stay Childless!
We've all heard about the gender gap. But, now there's a new wage discrepancy in town - and this time it's one-sided. Re: In the News: Looking for a Job? Stay Childless!
I doubt this study highly. It's not been my experience at all. And I'm childFREE (there is a difference!) and it hasn't helped me find a job in this market. Further, why isn't there a poll option that is "Not now, and definitely never!"

Re: In the News: Looking for a Job? Stay Childless!
Twenty two years after my son was born it saddens me that this is still seen as a women's issue instead of a people issue. Who looks after the children is still viewed as the mother's problem, not the father's - why? Whether the responsibility falls to one parent or the other, or is shared by both, the reality is that somebody's career has to give a little if the child/children are going to receive the attention they need. It's good to see that some companies are starting to recognize that it's in their interest to have a family-friendly culture - we just need for this to become mainstream. However I fear that not much progress will be made until the economy recovers.

Re: In the News: Looking for a Job? Stay Childless!
I dont necessarily agree w/ this study. At my place of employment, working mothers are often more desired b/c it shows their level of commitment to family.
It can be unfair as I have found in the past that parent w/ children responsibilites during the working day are excused and offerend more leeway rather than those who dont have children. That's not fair. |
