Re: In The News: Workplace Burnout
I've written a ton of articles about this issue in the past. It's incredibly interesting and important for me because I personally experienced severe burnout about 5 years ago. It was very painful but I learned a lot from the experience. I wanted to share a couple of articles for those who might find my story interesting:

Sometimes, 1 Step Back = 2 Steps Forward

10 Things I'd Tell My 23-Year-Old Self

And this one, I wrote as a guest author on one of my favorite blogs:
Is Balance a Myth?

Re: In The News: Workplace Burnout
I am experiencing workplace burnout now! I know the feeling and it is horrible. I come to work and count down the hours until I can go home. I have lost interest and am not motivated.

I work full-time and go to school full-time 4 nights out of the week. I've been on this schedule pretty much non-stop for going on four years. Naturally, I'm exhausted. I never really spent time with friends and family. I have been taking days off in spots and it's just not enough. Three day weekends are like blips of refreshment.

Now I make time for myself to have fun. I don't nit pick about money and I go out! It is SO important! And so incredibly refreshing to relax and laugh a bunch. I don't worry about gas as much as I used to and drive to my friends' houses to have a girls night. It's important to be responsible, but I used to be overly strict with myself. I would be too disciplined in order to get ahead in my career and financially, but in the end it undermined my happiness and now I have to drag myself out of bed to even come to work!

A couple weeks of vacation and an extended break from overtime should remedy that.

Re: In The News: Workplace Burnout
Work/Life balance is paramount to me. I have reached the edge of a burnout a few times. My last near encounter was when I was working as an admin while going to school online. The tasks at work were much less stimulating and monotonous than my school assignments and were not doing anything for me. I made the decision one day to stay home from work to finish a group project that was due and throughout the whole day I realized how much more I enjoyed doing my school work than my job. That was when I knew it was time for a change. My main goal right now is to get my degree and luckily I am now in a position where I have enough down time to stimulate my mind with my school work (and sites like these) so that I am not bored and my brain doesn't fry.
