Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
I have been a member for about 2 years. I find the site very helpful when I need to find quick info. There have been many times when I have been asked to call another country and need to know the time there. I simply go to the IAAP site and click on the timezone locater. Such a time saver. Also I really enjoy reading Office Pro magazine. I have learned so much. So it is worth becoming a member!

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
I've been a member of IAAP since 1994 and love it! I highly recommend this resource. I just got back from NOLA where I learned about OfficeArrow and am glad to be here as well.
I definitely do recommend joining a local chapter. If there is more than one chapter in the area, check out them all to see which one is the best "fit" for you. Good luck! |

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
I agree with all of you. Become a member of IAAP worth the price. I became a member on February this year and I don't know what I was doing or thinking that I didn't join this professional network before.
I received OfficePRO the magazine and it has an special article from the executive director with all benefits you will get with your membership: *Personal and Professional Development Resources *OfficePRO Magazine *Local and International Networking *Professional Certification *Research *Administrative Professional Week Celebration I hope it can help you make a decision. |

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
I have been a member of IAAP since 1992 and I would strongly recommend it as a good organization especially if you don't belong to a professional organization now. I joined after taking a new job in a downtown office tower and there was very little opportunity to meet people. I believe the key is to make sure the chapter you join is a very active chapter. Our chapter has always been active and it is amazing the talent available within our membership.
You can join IAAP and be a Member-at-Large; however, I wouldn't recommend that approach simply because you miss out on the networking, the involvement and the continual learning experience of bein an active member of a chapter. I have greatly improved my leadership skills by serving & chairing committee and have served on the Board three times. I have many close friends now in the chapter and we socialize as a group and with our spouses. |

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
Hi Sabrina,
I too have been a member of IAAP for 4 years. Through networking events (seminars, annual meetings, International), I have made some great contacts and some awesome friends! I have attained my CPS And CAP certifications two years ago. During my times between jobs, my fellow IAAP'ers were my source of strength...they really were there for me. But, as others have mentioned, you can only get out of it what you are willing to put into it. |

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
"Right now I'm unemployed. One of the reasons I was considering joining was to network and help find a job, but it seems that the local groups don't meet in the summer, so that part may not help me."
Sabrina, IAAP certainly is a good networking group. However, as I'm sure you've learned, networking should start BEFORE you actually need the benefit of networking. Good luck in your job search. |

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
Very true. Unfortunately, I moved to a city 3 months ago where I don't know anyone to begin networking.
