Kemetia,

I'm catching up on some OA comments, and just noticed your license plate. What IS that above the license plate anyway????

Hope we get a chance to get together again soon. I'll be presenting in Tennessee in April for APW and still have two days open. It's not far to your neck of the woods, so if you know any chapters in the DelMarva area that need a speaker for Administrative Professionals Week, let me know. It's a quick hop over from Nashville where I'll be.

Take care. Love the license plate!!

I was just about to join IAAP when I got laid off in August. It's going to have to wait now until I get more cash.

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
I have been a member since 1992 and it has been well worth the cost of membership. My employer supported my membership and paid for annual dues, dinner fees, workshops, conferences, etc. I became certified in 1994 and had the opportunity to present information about IAAP to our entire staff. I would highly recommend membership especially if you are young and career minded. A great source of networking and education. The first time I attended a meeting (on my own)....the outgoing president gave her speech. At that time, I was particularly shy about being in front of a microphone shaking and my stomach rolling! I was so impressed with how she delivered her speech that I deceided to join and to get involved. I can now say that by serving on committees and the board...that my leadership skills are much improved and especially my speaking skills.

I am a former member of IAAP. I loved being part of the organization. I highly recommend it for the networking, the education and the camaraderie!

I am currently a member of NALS, the National Association for Legal Professionals. It's the legal industry's equivalent of IAAP.

Re: Are you a member of IAAP?
I belonged to that group back when they were still the Professional Secretaries International. I, too, am both a CPS and a CAP.

I have two thoughts about this group. First, the strength of the chapter will determine how effective the membership is. Second, you get out of it what you put into it. If you get involved with the chapter, run for office or volunteer for some of the committees, it can be very rewarding. If all you do is show up for the monthly meetings, you won't get nearly as much out of it.

I am not a member now because our chapter folded a few years ago and we are still working to get enough interest to restart. I am hoping we can get it in place this year.

I have been a member since 1992 and have thoroughly enjoyed my membership. We have a very friendly chapter. Through the years, I have been able to develop my leadership skills. I have served on committees, as well as on the Board several times. Another benefit is the certifications. I became CPS certified in 1994 and just passed the November CAP exam. I would highly recommend membership especially if you will be working for a number of years. I hope your employer is willing to invest in your career development. Another benefit is the great friendships. I met one of my closest friends through IAAP!
