Re: 6 Things to Consider When Buying a Laptop
I'd like to throw my hat in the ring as the local Mac champion. Be sure not to count out the MacBook and MacBook Pro just because you're in business. They're extremely fast, loaded with features, and, because of their use of Intel processors now, they are the only computer on the market that can run Mac OS and Windows natively. On top of that, they can handle any office task you throw at it, including Microsoft Office. They're typically more stable than Windows and are far less susceptible to malware, like viruses, spyware, and the preinstalled crap that clogs a typical Windows machine. And if you actually do have issues, Apple has been rated highest in customer satisfaction and technical support for five years straight, and finished 10 points higher than Dell, the second place finisher. I've been using Mac OS X since it was first announced, and I've never once gotten a virus. We've actually converted all of the Officearrow programming and design team to Macintosh.

Re: 6 Things to Consider When Buying a Laptop
As an owner of an HP notebook I would not recommend them to my dog. They are junk. In the past 2 years i have had 3 notebooks bought one and the others are warrantee replacement for their original junk.
I started off with the DV2120us with in the first 3 months that notebook had to be shipped back to them 3 times because the screen kept going out on it. Six months after buying, the notebook it quite working all together. I sent it in for repair and it came back worked for a month before it started to randomly shut down and over heating profusely. They replaced it in June of last year (2007) with another custom built notebook to the same specs as the original. This one made it extac3 months before it started having issues. It would overheat. Battery live was non existent and it would randomly shutdown and not start up. I sent it in they got it working again. When I received it I started it up and at worked well for a couple of days. Then it started acting up again. Back to the repair center it went. Fixed again or so they though. Finally they send me to a case manager. I though now they will do something to correct this issue. I was sadly mistaken. Nothing except to send it back in. So I took the matter in my own hands and contacted the corporate headquarters in Palo Alto, CA and got the head of customer service on the phone. It was then that she looked at the whole case with the prior notebook and the repair notes with the one at that time. She authorized a replacement notebook with a value of 2300 and I was to pick and customize the notebook. I did I ended up with a DV6000. I received it in November of last year. By the end of the month I had to send it in for repairs already. I was typing on it and a key stuck to my finger and fell off the keyboard. I sent it in for repairs. Instead of it taking 2 weeks the repairs took a MONTH just for them to replace the keyboard. They also replaced the palm rest and the motherboard saying that both were defective also. This notebook overheats so bad that you cannot place it on your lap or touch the bottom of it. I sent it in about 3 months ago because it was randomly shutting down, the DVD drawer stopped working in windows. I got it back within the 2 weeks. 3 days after receiving this one back it would not activate vista. I had to get on the phone with HP they were no help and referred me to Microsoft. Finally after 4 hours of their time they finally figured out what was going on and issued a new product key--issue fixed. Now I have to send it back in because there is no audio, its still shutting down on its own but only when running on the battery that is fully charged. Tuesday is when it’s going back to the repair facility. I will keep this updated as new developments arise. Also there is a class action lawsuit investigation going on for the HP notebooks. Everyone is having the same issues with the hp notebooks. The website for the class action investigation is HP Pavilion Notebooks (HPQ) Class Action Lawsuit |
