Most job descriptions now should also include the "Essential Job Functions" of the position. Those are the duties that can't be performed with reasonable accommodation. This aspect of job descriptions came about as a result of the Americans with Disabilities Act. There may be some duties of a position that could not be performed by someone in a wheelchair for example without reasonable accommodation. Companies have to be very clear on what job duties can be accommodated and what duties can not.

For example, if telephone work is a duty of the job, could someone who is hearing impaired perform that task? Yes, with reasonable accommodation, the company could provide a special phone that would allow the employee to hear the callers clearly.
