SMART goals for Administrative Assistant
I need to do my annual review and my manager has requested that I creat my own goals to be graded upon.

I am finding it difficult to find any goals that are measurable by some means other than to be evaluated by the reviewer.

Any goal suggestions?

Hi,
Can you tell me a few of your specific job responsibilities, what department you are in, etc.?

Robin, I, too, have to compose SMART goals, and I am finding it difficult to establish measurable goals for my position which is administrative assistant. I report to the South Region Manager in a forestry/land development company, and I find that my support position is guided mainly by what the other managers in my group do. Are there any general SMART objectives for and admin assistant?

Thanks.

Re: SMART goals for Administrative Assistant
Robin and cknightmom, I used the SMART goal worksheet for the first time this past year to prepare for my year end review. Some general topics that I put specifics to were: start with getting clear short term/long term objectives of each department I support to understand how to best assist them; project coordinator with design firm for launch of new website; clean up files/storage/archiving/come up with standards; become more proficient in a software I already use; attend 4-6 "lunch 'n learn" education sessions; read career/personal development/leadership books.

I created mine in an Excel spreasheet with the SMART across the top and filled in each one very specifically of how I can accomplish the goal, by when, who can help, how it benefits the company. Hope this helps you both.

Re: SMART goals for Administrative Assistant
I Know how difficult it is to nail down a perfect Smart Goal. I agree with the prior post goals that show learnig capability. I had to write a goal sheet for a former employer and found it help me realized just how unhappy at the job I was. Since then I keep a goal sheet for my own personal use and when asked to give a goal sheet to my supervisor I am ready and have a list of accomplished goals as well.

Re: SMART goals for Administrative Assistant
You can find a template for SMART goals in the OA Toolbox. Search the site for related articles and discussions - lots of information. To offer some ideas and do some brainstorming; a Specific goal could be asking your manager for more responsiblity in an area where you may be under utilized. A Measurable goal could be an idea for cost savings; travel, shipping, office supplies, etc. By incorporating a formal travel policy, I was able to save $100+ (annually) at my previous employer. An Achievable goal - initiate an idea for a new procedure or improving an existing one that could streamline the process and save time. A Reaslistic goal could include training, education tools (check out OAs podcast!). Time - using the tools on OfficeArrow increases your productivity, which equals time. And we all know, time = MONEY!
