Restarting your career after moving from the UK
HI, Can anyone give me any advice on where to go to restart my career as I have just recently moved to the Chicago area, due to my husband's job, from the UK and I am unsure where to begin to look for a job. My EAD came through this week, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - Thanks

Hi Helen,
Welcome to OA! What is your background? I would recommend joining some associations in the area so you can start building a professional network in Chicago. This will help you tap into the "underground" job market. Good luck! |

Re: Restarting your career after moving from the UK
Hi Nicole, My last position was within a further education college in London and it was a combination of customer service and administration re student enrolment and fee assessment. What kind of professional network would you suggest as I really don't have anyone to help me here.

I did a quick search on Google and found the Business Network Chicago which lists several associations in the area. I hope that helps!

It sounds like you worked at a for-profit education institution. There are quite a few of those based in the Chicago area. Try Kaplan Higher Education as they just moved there.
You can also volunteer with charity organizations in your area. This is one of the best ways to meet people and begin the networking process. Good luck! |
