Re: a couple years missing in my resume
It's probably as easy as saying 'For the period of <month, year> until <month, year>, life circumstances prevented me from working.'
I would put this under the work experience section of your resume (though if anyone else has a more approriate suggestion, please go ahead) Then if they ask you to elaborate, you can tell them the details (but not too much information... that's always a bad thing to do with a prospective employer). Good luck |

Re: a couple years missing in my resume
Leave it off the resume; include a brief statement in your cover letter that says "During the time between xx/xxxx and xx/xxxx, I cared for my parents".
I think the term "life circumstances" might lead someone to think you were physically unable to work, in rehab, or in jail - you never know what someone might read into that. I agree that you do not need to elaborate on the details. Any prospective employer who asks or keeps picking away at the subject would raise a flag with me. |

Re: a couple years missing in my resume
It may be a good time to reorganize your resume. Some experts suggest a different format when there are gaps in employment. Rather than listing jobs in chronological order, consider listing your jobs by category of work or by position description, in order of more responsibility. Check the library for resume formats - you have nothing to hide, just strengths to play up in a different way!
