Build Your Professional Identity

When you step foot in the office, your professional identity takes over. Who is that person? Your conduct at work is likely a bit different from the person you are at home with friends and family. Don't worry - you're not suffering from a personality disorder. Learn why it's perfectly normal (and even healthy) to separate these two parts of your identity.

Re: Build Your Professional Identity
Personally, I try to be myself every moment of the day, regardless of where I am. I believe that this is the best way to find happiness, if I'm at a job and get fired for being myself, did I really want that job anyway?

If I am in a social situation and am not having fun being myself, do I want to stay in that situation? Or continue to hang out with those people?

..but that's just me.

I was delighted to find this article and can completely relate. I act differently at work because I equate professional with responsible and tend to be more serious. I think it's good to mesh personal and professional identities because it makes people seem more human.

Re: Build Your Professional Identity
This article is interesting b/c I have encountered people who were totally different out of the office. As I have grown I have learned to mesh both my optimistic, carefree attitude with my business, professional demeanor. The collaboration is what attracts people to me and they usually have respect for me, while also feeling comfortable enough to ask me to join them for a drink. I think a little bit of everything works, not to mention that around certain people your attitude will go from one side to the other.
