Re: The Games We Play: How Games at Work Can Boost Morale and Improve Productivity
At a recent standard monthly department meeting that I was asked to run, we wanted to highlight new changes to our dress code, which had gone from business professional to "relaxed business". To make it more lighthearted, and less boring than reading the new guidelines out loud, I created a PowerPoint game called "Should you wear this to work?". It had flashy graphics like a game show, and I divided the room into two teams. Participants did not have to move from where they were, we just passed the bell down the line. I would flash a picture on the screen of a possible article of cloting or an outfit that someone would wear. The first team to ring the bell and answer yes or no (if no they had to give a reason why the item was inappropriate) correctly would get a point, and the team with the most points received candy. I know, a little like a high school trick to get students to pay attention but it worked... to keep it fun I would flash random, obviously incorrect pictures to get a laugh (such as a photo of the famous Bjork swan dress, or crazy disco platforms, or our rival's uniform) in between the legitimate ones. It was a good note to end on, rather than death by meeting.
