Re: Top skills
That's a great question, Doris. I recently did some research on this very topic and across the board, managers are looking for admins with good problem solving (critical thinking) skills, negotiation skills and communication skills. Managers want admins who can conduct themselves professionalism in any situation. They need problem solvers - who know the model for breaking down an issue to get the best outcome. And remember, that problems don't always have to be negative situations - by this I mean, any process or office dynamic that you can take the initiative on to improve or streamline.
I would also add one more to the list - one from my own personal experience. Managers need admins who are positive and set an upbeat tone in the office. There are so many tough decisions being made - an admin who is sensitive to the environment is critical. Managers need liaisons. It's a vital role for assistants - if you can fill that role, you set yourself apart. __________________

Re: Top skills
I totally agree with you here. Indeed managers search for admin personnel that are smart and indeed have a positive attitude. I am a business women and an owner of an outsourcing service here in NY and I am totally strict interms of looking people to fill my staff, I always make sure that they are here not only because I pay them for there work but also make ways to improve the income of the company a person who values his Job.
