You can do your homework beforehand, to find an approximate salary range for the position without asking directly at the interview. Never discuss salary until you're offered the job. The interviewer may ask what salary you're looking for (or a similar question) and your answer should always be something to the effect of, "I look forward to discussing salary after I know more about the position."

Be ready to respond if the interviewer asked what your salary requirements are. Give a range of what you expect to earn. If you're working with a recruiter, they will have a good idea of salary demographics in your field.
