This is very good advise for anyone wishing to advance their professional respect level in a company. Executives have a habit of noticing my looks first and then assuming that I'm just a face without a brain. Being able to communicate effectively has made me a valuable and respected professional. Listening can also be a Smoking Gun in some situations :-)

I think that to be an effective communicator, listening is more important than speaking at first. "Seek first to understand, then to be understood" is kind of my personal motto. Great article, Peggy.
