A woman I am carpooling with has two cats and one of them died recently. The cat was 13 years old. This woman doesn't have any children and is single so her cats are family to her. We have bereavement leave when we lose a loved one, but what about a beloved pet?

Has an article ever been written on this issue, when a co-worker loses a pet?

Her boss is not very understanding and other people haven't been either. They think she is overreacting. And maybe she is. After all it is just a cat.

I see you have a picture of a cat so you must be cat lover too. Have you ever seen an article on this? It is definitely affecting her work and she is really struggling, but there is no support from her office.

She is an assistant in a legal environment.
