Re: Mental Prep: The Forgotten Step in Event Planning
"Generate Quick Reference Notes - Having quick reference notes on hand will assist you in keeping your thoughts clear and concise in your speaking. Simply having them will give you peace of mind and, should you get fumbled up in your speaking, they will be there to reference; allowing you to keep your composure and get back on track."

I've found checklists and forms from the Convention Industry Council's Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) Toolbox to be invaluable in helping me cover all the bases. Their Event Specification Guide helps me keep crucial info in quick-reference form all in one place, and their Post-Event Report helps me compare apples to apples from year to year. For more info go to APEXsolution.org and click on "Accepted Practices". APEX was developed as cross-platform resources by industry reps including hoteliers, meeting planners, database providers, Convention & Visitors Bureaus, and others.
