Dissing the Boss
I work as an Office Mgr / Exec Asst. to CEO at a small company (7 people total). One of the key managers is constantly dissing the CEO. I think he feels comfortable doing this with me b/c I vented to him a few times. I realized what a huge mistake that was and have since stopped. But what do I do now about this manager continuing to diss the boss? His attitude is so anti our CEO, and it sets a bad example for the team, hinders motivation & productivity, etc. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Re: Dissing the Boss
You have to speak "offline" to this manager and tell him exactly what you just said - it sets a bad example for the team, hinders motivation, etc. Tell him you realize that it was not in the best interest of the company for you to "vent" about the CEO, and that you are asking him to present a unified team.

Re: Dissing the Boss
I agree with Robin. Apologize for doing it in the first place. We all make mistakes, but let the person know you do not want to continue these kinds of discussions. Loyalty to your boss means a lot when you are an EA. That is the whole purpose of our job, to support him or her in just about everything to do with their position and they need to trust that we are loyal to them.
