Re: Get Caught Reading: Reply to Win!
I am currently reading the book by Steve Harvey, called Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. This book tells all (from a man's perspective)about how women should interact with men in relationships. The book gives you an understanding and better perspective of the goals of a man, who men are, why they think and act they way they do, and also gives insight as to how we as women can handle them emotionally.
If you are in a relationship, want to get into one, having problems within the relationship, or want to know what to do when problems present themselves, this book is a must read! Dewoun |

Re: Get Caught Reading: Reply to Win!
I'm currently reading "Bad Girls Go Everywhere," a biography of former Cosmo editor Helen Gurley Brown, who happens to be from my home state of Arkansas. I just started reading the book and am only about one-fourth of the way through it, but it is just fascinating to me to read about the life and the background of this trailblazing woman. She certainly had revolutionary, and at the time controversial, views on women and sex and work.
I love to read biograhpies and autobiographies because people absolutely fascinate me. I have a special, albeit simple, connection to Helen Gurley Brown; my Mom bought my sister and I the "Cosmo 20-Minute Makeover" video from a garage sale when we were young, and I remember Helen Gurley Brown from the video. In reading this book I'm finding that she was such a trailblazer in the area of women's rights, and she had her own unique views of femininity. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys learning about interesting people. |

Re: Get Caught Reading: Reply to Win!
I am relatively new at my current position as EA to the VP of Human Resources, Health Safety & Environment and also to the General Manager of Information Technology. Two years ago, at a yearly meeting event, Executives and Managers were treated to a speaking event by Larry Wilson. The ideas that came from this event are still spoken about by the Executive team and they still refer back to the book writen by him often for ideas on creating and building a healthy personal and corporate culture. I decided to apply a lesson learned from "Become an Inner Circle Assistant" by Joan Burge and I am learning things of interest about my Executives. In order to truly understand the concepts they were discussing I set out to read "Play to Win" by Larry Wilson and Hersch Wilson.
This books discusses how organizations and individuals have minimal control over changes that occur. The Wilsons spell out and detail compelling steps on how to deal with change and move forward for growth. The book is packed with learning concepts, examples, applicable motivational quotes and some humour. On the inside of the jacket (on the book I have) is a foreward by Amy Edmondson, Harvard Business Professor, who received an advanced copy for comment, she wrote, "First, my administrative assistant, who opened the mail, got so engrossed upon reading the first few pages that she refused to turn the manuscript over to me. As soon as she finished reading it, someone else in the office started on it!" I can see why, this book is enlightening and inspirational and even if you don't apply all the lessons in the book you learn concepts that will help you become more successful and fulfilled. Give this book a read! |

Re: Get Caught Reading: Reply to Win!
Right now I am reading "The Wednesday Letters." I picked it up on a whim because I needed a book to read. Boy, am I happy that I did. It is a pretty short book, but has a great topic. The story is touching, uplifting and I just can't put it down. It begins with a married couple who own an inn. The man has been writing "Wednesday letters" to his wife since they were first married. He writes her a note every Wednesday no matter what. When they pass, everyone gets together to discuss what wonderful people they were. Their children find the letters, read them and learn secrets and wishes of their parents. Spiritual and comforting, this book is awesome!

Re: Get Caught Reading: Reply to Win!
I'm in the middle of three books now. Preparing for my year as chapter president, I'm reading Leadership the Challenge; while on the treadmill during my workout, I'm reading Harry, A History; and for leisure evening reading, I've got Jane Austen's Emma. I've also got Kim Harrison's series on my computer and catch a quick read at work at lunch.

The Very Hard Way: Bert Loper and the Colorado River by Brad Dimock.
Brad is a Grand Canyon river guide who took another step from telling his river guests about river history to publishing a series of well researched books on notable river runners who were the first on the Colorado Plateau to undertake river trips after Major Wesley Powell's USGS explorations of 1869 and 1872. |

Re: Get Caught Reading: Reply to Win!
I'm reading the first book in the "Wicked" series by Gregory Maguire. The writing style takes a bit of getting used to. I've only just started the book, but I'm looking forward to having some time this weekend to really sit down and dig in.
