My struggle is: When the plans were on the board to open the company that I work with, I stressed that I would want assistance, especially if they were going to ramp up sales more than what was being done in the previous incarnation.
We originally had four people working at the new place, but one quit (he really was more of a hindrance anyway). Now that they've been open for almost a year, I still have yet to see the requested help. The day in day out of the SAME thing without really being challenged, the fighting with the parent company as to any time off and holidays which we have to fight for, and the favoritism to others is taking its toll and I am noticing that I am making stupid mistakes that would not normally happen...

Re: Professional Challenges: Share Your Struggles and Win
I started with my current company on August 13, 2007. Because of my start date, I was not eligible for an increase in 2007. Last year (2008), becuase of the economy, we were told no one would be getting merit raises (I know that some executives were given merit raises).

The work I do now is extensive compared to what I did when I first started and what the girl did before me. I have continually taken on more and more responsibiities.

I went on Salary.com and found I am being paid in the lower 25th percentile. I was making much more five years ago than I am making today. My evaluations have been above average and I know that my boss thinks I'm doing a good job. My challenge is how do I approach my boss now for a very good raise or should I just start looking for another job?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thank you to those who participated in our recent "Professional Challenges" contest! We appreciate your thoughtful responses and are excited to announce a winner.

Congratulations are in order for Georgean Sharp (OA member: georgean) of Pittsburgh, PA. She will receive a $50 gift card to the spa of her choice. Check back tomorrow for another great contest announcement to carry us through Halloween! You don't want to miss it.

Also, we have a few different articles on how to go about asking for a raise. These may be helpful to Georgean and anyone else who is dealing with a similar issue:
1. Performance Reviews: Are You Prepared to Get a Raise?
2. Negotiate Your Way to Higher Pay
3. Help! I’m Under Paid!
