Hi Jennifer,
I couldn't agree more about the to-do list. I call it a "second brain". I love your point around how you'll wonder how you ever lived without it?! Great post!

Re: To Do: Write a List
I think it's essential to have a To-Do list now. Even for my personal family life, along with for work. It finally got my 17 teenage daughter to stop telling me "I told you this already!" when I forgot an appointment to taxi her to.

I don't use the pen and paper variety as I never have either of them with me on the go. Luckily I have Jott.com linked to rememberthemilk.com and my Google Calendar so I can add tasks easily anytime, as I always have my cell phone with me.

Good article.

Re: To Do: Write a List
I agree on the value of "the list." As an EA, my boss and I shared our task lists in Outlook. I could see his and he could see and "edit" mine (you can give permission for others to edit your task list, calendar, etc.) and that worked great. He could update due dates and add items to my list. Then when we met weekly I printed off my list and we worked directly off my computer to update as needed. There is empowerment in crossing off completed "dos" off the list!! Great article, Jennifer.

Re: To Do: Write a List
I need a good list making software for PC.

Am a HUGE list maker - lovingly referred to as the snake.

I was forced to move from Outlook 07 to LOTUS and am in the middle of no where land.

I need something simple and easy to use.

Any ideas?

Re: To Do: Write a List
I'm lucky that we've use Outlook in every office I've worked in during the last 10 years or so. I use a combination of Outlook Tasks and setting reminders on e-mails to keep up with tasks. It has benefits over pen and paper because 1)you don't have to transfer things over to a new list every day 2)your historical lists don't take up a bunch of room in your files, and 3)it gives you periodic reminders if you set a reminder for it. For procrastinators, and the Goddess knows I am one, it gives you that little nudge to actually start that task instead of just keep putting it off.
