Re: How to Move Past a Bad Decision
For someone who has a tremendous amount of difficulty in making decisions, the title of this article grabbed me and sucked me in. I immediately paused on what I was working on and took a moment to read the article. Thanks Libby. Great information. It feels good to be reminded that everyone has to make decisions and you've given us some good things to think about before making them. Even though it still stinks to make a bad one, it is comforting in some way to know that we took the appropriate actions and time to make the decision we felt was right. The key is to learn from the bad decision...then that bad decision has just created some value...not just a stomachache and stress.
I still need to get better at making decisions (and not getting EVERYONE's input), but your article puts me in the right direction. Thanks! ![]() |

Re: How to Move Past a Bad Decision
I think, to piggyback on what Galfriday said, I would take it one step further and say there really is no such thing as a "bad" decision. I know people who live in regret, stewing about "bad" choices, etc. In reality, you are where you are - there's no escaping it. Even if you're not where you "want" to be, you have no idea how things could have ended up if you had made that so-called "right" decision. You just can't predict where any decision will take you. I just watched that movie, "Butterfly Effect" and it explores this exact issue. The main character goes back in time to "right" the things he regretted. And every time, it messed something else up. Anyway, my point is this: there are no bad decisions. Even NO decision can be the right decision sometimes....in my humble opinion

Re: How to Move Past a Bad Decision
Learning from past bad decisions helps. And most times, when humans make bad decisions, it is only because they made the decision in haste. Having the patience to take your time and the wisdom to know that, most times, there is no rush in making a decision, helps you make better decisions in the future.
There might be one time or twice in a lifetime where you need to make a decision quickly, but for the most part, there is usually always time for a well thought-out decision. |
