Can you give us some better examples of what she says and does? Also explain how you react. I just don't have enough to go off of to help you out.

Hi Rohini,
I think I know what you're dealing with...I call it "unsolicited advice" - when people jump into a situation and offer their opinions or advice when it hasn't been asked for. I used to work with someone who did similar things - approached my boss with things that should have gone through me first. However, my previous boss was very good about not encouraging that behavior. It sounds like your boss doesn't see that this is a problem for you. Perhaps you should discuss it with your boss. Let him or her know how your feeling. If your boss agrees that it's a problem, hopefully he/she will help address it with the other person.

Good luck to you!

Hi Rohini,
Trying to resist the unsolicted "help" will only make matters worse. Instead very sweetly thank this person everytime they offer this help!If you really want to put them off-guard next time why not ask them for assistance even before they start meddling. You should do this even you already know what needs to done! This person is feeding their own ego by undermining you in front of you boss, but does not see this. Instead all they see at the moment is the "good" feeling they get from feeding their own ego without realising that this is coming at the expense of someone else's well-being. My advice is don't fight it you can't win, you will only come across as being ungrateful. Rather do what the person wants but least expects -show them gratitude that and feed their ego on your terms - you will be amazed at the result trust me!

Rohini, I have faced a similar situation in the past, where one person constantly tried to do my job, although it was completely unrelated to theirs. It stopped when I one day went to them, thanked them for all their help, and told them that I thought I could handle it on my own. I think they were kind of taken aback by it, maybe even a little embarassed, and the behavior immediately stopped.
