How do you assign an automatic numbering on Purchase Order so it will not be re-used again?

How are you generating and tracking the purchase orders? Oracle? Access? Excel? (and what version of Office?) Manual forms?

Are you wanting to generate the numbers yourself or have the computer assign them for you?

That makes a difference.
