Planning Ahead
Several years ago I worked for the Athletic Director of a local high school, and he wore many different hats, including chairperson of the Athletic Dept., as well as many other roles, so it was imperative that he be organized so he knew what meeting he needed to attend when, etc. When I was hired, I received a Franklin Planner, which changed the way I did everything, even things at home.
If you are familiar with their system, it teaches you to prioritize even the smallest of tasks, and seeing it on paper, give you much more motivation to make sure it's completed in a timely manner. Their system suggested that you prioritize things using a numbering system, 1 being the most important task you have for that day. Many times I had several "1's" during any given day, but then you prioritize them even further my breaking them down by 1A, 1B, 1C, etc. I don't think there was a day I didn't complete all my tasks when I was using the Franklin Planner. I even found that it helped me organize my day when I got home. Again, since I seen it on paper, it really helped me stay focused and complete my most important tasks before moving on to something else. I love the Franklin Planner, and I am going to start using it again as it is the most efficient planner system I've ever seen. I've tried others from the department stores, but there is no system that works better for me. I've even tried setting up an electronic system like the Franklin Planner, but for some reason it just hasn't worked as well for me...I'm a real "hands on" type of person, very visual, so I think that's why their system works so well for me. I am a multi-tasker by nature - I even multi-tasked before there was a name for it, but this method gives me the best of both worlds, to multi-task and to plan for each day. |
