These guidelines are very good, but it's important to remember that the world is actually a pretty safe place. Do take precautions, but don't fall into the trap of believing that there's an attacker or thief around every corner.

We hear a lot more about crime (thanks to radio, TV, and the Internet) than we did even 20 years ago -- but the reality is that you are less likely to be the victim of a violent crime than you have ever been since such statistics have been kept.

Be safe, but don't forget to enjoy your travels!

Thanks for the reminder Darren. It's so true what you said! We don't need to be overly cautious to the point of paranoia. Staying aware of your surroundings is the biggest "tip" for staying safe. But all in all, traveling is great and most of the people I've meet have been incredibly helpful and just plain nice.
