The following questions were asked by one of our focus group members:

What deals can I get on rental cars? We’d really like a convertible.

When I rent a car, do I need the extra “walk away” insurance, it’s almost the same cost per day as the rental car?

Because Yellowstone is in 2 different states, what does that mean for my car rental, the times I’ve rented in the past we couldn’t take it out of the state.

I've tried them all and I always return to Hertz. They have good rates if you belong to a group, even something generic like AAA

As an experienced travel consultant, I hope I can help out here:

Regarding insurance, I would advise you to always take the extra insurance. I often suggest that my clients look into the following:
- Does your regular car insurance provider offer extended insurance for car rentals? Some do, some don't.
- Check your credit cards to see if they offer extended insurance. Most gold cards (and above) offer some type of car rental insurance.
If you plan on renting a lot of cars, I would suggest applying for a credit card that includes the extra coverage. You'll save a lot of money in the long run.

For deals and taking your rental out of state: You'll need to do your research. A lot of car rental agencies offer a variety of promotions, but they are constantly changing. Some allow trans-border rentals, others do not. If you do not have the time to do the research, contact a travel agent. They can access loads of information instantly on their reservations systems.
