My boss uses a very detailed email filing system. It is by month then by project or client. It takes him a little longer to go through emails, but he can find something he needs in seconds. He also has individual files for each person, sub contractor etc. very efficient.

I have trained myself to use this system, it really works.

Another tip is that when you flag the e-mail, set a reminder on it. It will then pop up a reminder so you don't forget about it.

You can also sort e-mail by flags so you can find those flagged e-mails quickly and don't forget about them.
