Re: Talk Yourself Up: The Key to Professional Bragging
You have to promote yourself and "toot your own horn" so to speak. On the big tasks others may notice but just by being excited and saying "Hey I just finished that project and it came out awesome" shows that you are a happy worker and at the same time you are letting them see your accomplishment.
I personally think it's important to keep a running log through out the year that way when you sit down for your review you can say "I did this, this and this" because a year later both you and your boss may have forgotte all you have done. It helped me get a promotion and raise because my bragging was all in print this past month. And yes, according to the article never exaggerate and never take credit for someone else's work/project either. You can say you helped with something but don't take credit when it is not due. Also, personally I like to send out nice emails when I see others doing a great job because you are helping them and also at the same time you are being noticed for being a team player. Sounds like kissing up but it's not. It's just being a part of a team. Plus when you do something great, those people are likely to send a nice email out for you. One of my co-workers did that for me last week and it felt awesome and I was recognized by both of my bosses. |

Great comments Ms. Bridgette Jones! You make a great point about keeping a running log throughout the year. I always forget what I have accomplished during the year and draw a blank when it comes to review time. When I do look back, I realize I've accomplished a lot I should be proud of.
