EA and VP - HELP!
I am an EA who recently started a new job and work directly for a Senior VP of HR. This person has asked me to find a book for him to read on how to work effectively with your EA. He has admitted to me he has no clue. I am the sixth EA in this position in a short period of time. I would like this new relationship to last.
Many thanks. |

Re: EA and VP - HELP!
Dewoun,
This is a great opportunity for you to develop an EA/Boss training! If you need some help, I would be happy to offer some ideas or do a conference call with you and your boss. The fact that he's asking is a terrific first step! __________________

Re: EA and VP - HELP!
While I can't recommend a specific book, there are several books that can be found by searching a library catalog or business book website. When I started as an assistant to a Mayor, Assistant City Manager, and HR Director, it was clear that they saw me as nothing more than a Girl Friday who would do anything she was told. While my first couple years were rough, I looked for books on how I could show myself as trustworthy, dependable, and capable.
It has taken 7 years to build the level of respect I have now, but the hard work was worth it. At least one of them views me as a partner in the work; the other two may have antiquated views of my role and responsibilities, but they also know that I am not a doormat. One book that was helpful was The New Office Professional's Handbook by Houghton Mifflen Publishers. Provides some tips . . . Good luck. If you need someone to chat with, I am available. __________________
