One thing to remember about keeping files on your desktop. Odds are, they aren't backed up. If your company has a network server that is backed up regularly, but the desktop pc's aren't backed up, then it's better to keep your files on the server so they get regular backup.

However, you can put a shortcut on your desktop to the appropriate folder or folders on the network. Just right click an empty space on your desktop, choose "New" and then "Shortcut". A wizard will come up to walk you through the steps of setting up your shortcut to the folder you want.

This is a really good topic. Remember, you want to put as much thought into your electronic filing system as you do to your paper filing system. One is just as important as the other.
