Re: Bereavement policy
Hi,
If you do not currently have a policy in place, it should be included in your company handbook. Example:
"If you are a regular full-time employee and a death occurs in your family, you will be compoensated for time lost from your regular work schedule in accordance with the following guidelines:
Your will be granted up to five days off from work with pay in the event of the death of your spouse, child, parent, sibling, or domestic partner, domestic partner's child, and two days in the event of the death of grandparents or of a relative not a member of your immediate family as defined above. Requests for bereavement leave should be made to your manager.

Re: Bereavement policy
I work for a major pharmaceutical firm and their policy is 3 days leave for any family member. Can you believe that?

Robin's suggestion above is a common policy, from the companies I've worked for.

Also, the last sentence can leave further time up to management discretion.
