improving morale
improving morale is one of the best things that can be done in a workplace. most of us forget about the others that we work with and center on ourselves a lot. but it is important to those who are under us to know that they are the back bone of what we do. if it was not for them, we would not be able to do what we do and therefore none of us would be employed. then none of us would have checks and that would hurt.
i know now that i am a boss i have to recognize those that do a lot of work like i did once because i have not forgotten that we appreciated when our boss recognized us for a job well done, and it helps if you know their names. Last edited by Lauren Elder; 12-24-2008 at 10:25 AM . |

Re: improving morale
I've found in my office (of about 25 people), that it goes a long way to stick a bowl of M&Ms in the kitchen on Fridays.
I accidently started this tradtion 6 months ago, and now it gives us all a good 5 min break on a tiring Friday afternoon to go in and have a chat. It cheers everyone up, creates good conversation, and only costs the company about $10 a week. It's the little touches that can make a BIG difference to the mood of an office ![]() |

If this person is not your direct supervisor, cut ties. I do not spend my time with emotional vampires. They suck the fun and good out of every time you are with them.

Re: improving morale
The simple gestures go a long way... like saying "please" and "thank you".
Recognize a fellow employee by name in a staff meeting so that everyone can hear and congratulate one another. I ordered blank note cards that I printed different designs on (using clip art of various backgrounds, pictures, seasonal, occasions, etc.) and they are blank on the inside. We keep them in a large plastic envelope in a central drawer so that whenever someone wants to give a coworker a card for anything, they can. For birthdays, babies, weddings, graduations, or just because... People really appreciate them and they keep them on their desk as reminders. |
