New way of greeting each other
The New York Times posted this article today. Frankly I am of the opinion that there is way to much touching now of days. I was hugged this past weekend by a client my husband and I visited (whom I had never met before). Some of that was due to the nature of our business (portraits and fine art)and some was because this client loves and appreciates the work we have done for her. So it was more of a "Hello/Thank you" hug. However in my job as Office Manager for a friendly but very professional company and in most other aspects of my life I don't hug or have much physical contact. When appropriate a handshake is a good way to establish connection but that is about it in my book. What are your thoughts about this?

Wow, that's interesting! I am all for getting hugs, but it's not really appropriate in a professional setting unless you know that person very well. It is kind of awkward to receive a hug from someone you don't know right off the bat. I'd say handshakes are always a safe bet.

The article was also highlighted this morning on the "Today" show. Most of the examples were specific to kids in school vs. people in offices. It is not appropriate in the office, but I do hug people I've worked with and am fond of, when I see them socially.
