I can't imagine a "high profile" individual dropping by without scheduling an appointment or even a courtesy call, but if they have a long-standing relationship with your boss, they may just want to say hell-o.
First, and foremost be cordial. If you don't know them, introduce yourself and then ask them if they had an appointment (you already know they didn't, but this gives them a chance to explain why they are there). Ask them to have a seat and tell them you'll go check to see if the person is available. I'm used to sales reps and account managers using this tactic, that I call the "Pop In". I hate the pop-in visit. |
