Still searching after 2 years
I was laid off in Aug 2007 when the company I was working for was sold. Since then I have been temping and searching for a full time permanent position. I've had lots of interviews, but no luck.

I think my problem (okay part of the problem) is my teeth - I lost one recently and can't afford to get it fixed right now (it's toward the front). I've practiced in front of a mirror to minimize expressions and broad smiles so as to minimize the visual, but I am sure it is has not gone unnoticed.

I realize there are a ton of job seekers out there (I'm an Admin Support professional), but would a potential employer really overlook my great experience and qualifications over something so superficial?

Getting it fixed now is not an option - foreclosure has been right around the corner as has repo of my car - so those are priorities.

Any suggests/comments/feedback? Help is appreciated.

Is there a dental school near you?
Have you spoken with your regular dentist about this? Perhaps he'd be willing to do a payment plan, especially since it is for job hunt. Or you could try calling different low-income health clinics and asking what you can do or where you could possibly go.

I see this was asked 5 months ago. Perhaps you already claimed a job and this is no longer an issue. But, it could be an issue for any one of us.

Good luck.

Check to see if there is a dental health foundation in your area. They should be able to help you find a dentist who can help.

Good luck.
