Private Equity Firms

Has anyone worked for one? What's it like? I have worked only in insurance firms, which are close but not quite. What's unique about them? What are the challenges in working at such a firm as an admin? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My company is owned by a high-level PEF. BIG bucks. They truly let our CEO run the biz, with their Board oversight, and no micromanaging. Their guys are all on a ton of other sub company boards, but someone at the PEF tracks this info for annual disclosures. They all travel a lot, use Blackberries 24/7, work hard and play hard. Their admins seem to be rotated among the partners frequently and I have to say I interact with the only Director's assistant who seems responsive to my calls and e-mails (mostly setting up Board and Committee meetings). Maybe the admins get many too many messages from all the subs, but...!
