What a bummer
Not to hold a grudge, or take it personal...

I just found out today that a few co-workers of mine went out for Admin. Professionals Day and didn't invite me.

Granted, they are decades older than me-and it was a 'gathering' of a specific group of friends in the office, it still stings. And I don't think the company should have paid for it.

It is just a bummer to know that there are 'cliches' in a small office like mine.

Ouch. Sorry about that, Jord0205. My office didn't even recognize it at all. At least from what I know. I could easliy see the same thing happening at my office.

jord0205... I know it stings but if you look on the bright side of it, you are now justified (as if we "need" a reason) to go home to a loooong hot bath with bubbles, your favorite chocolate something and/or a glass of wine and feel absolutely no guilt about it!

MollySue - I like the way you think!

For Jord0205 - It's always disappointing to learn that life is just exactly like high school. I'm sorry. When I was an intern in college, I didn't get invited to the Company Holiday party. It was an "oversight" but it was soooooo painful. I just felt totally invisible and like the odd man out.

I know that every office has social cliques but I agree with you - the company shouldn't have paid for it if it didn't involve everyone.

I agree - if the company paid, everyone should have been included. However, look past that, as it could have been an unintentional oversight.

Here’s something you can do to help build relations with the "experienced" group. Coordinate a lunch with the same people who went out without you and invite a few others from the office who may not have been included, but fit the profile, and call it "team building". It's important for any company that there is a level of professional comradery and lunch is a great way to do it. You can even discuss some of the issues and solutions from on this site.

If your office typically eats in, I suggest organizing a day where everyone goes out to lunch together. Or, if your office usually eats out at lunch, bring in pot luck. Holidays are a good time for this and the 4th of July is right around the corner.

Re: What a bummer
I recommend asking if they include you next time. Things like this happen all the time with my friends..

If they are disinclined to include you then, I have a great word for them, which I should not post on this site, and you shouldn't want to be friends with them anyway.

Cliques are whats killing my fraternity right now, its terrible. Especially as social chair, I try to include everyone in every little thing I do.

Maybe later today invite all the ladies that didn't include you out for lunch yourself. Just a thought..

I Telecommute for my job, so today when they had a pot-luck little party thing going on, it was something I missed, but I still prefer to not have to drive to an office every day while I work.

Re: What a bummer
I am confused. You say you are not holding a grudge, but yet Admin Day was April 23 and your post is June 17. My advice, a bit late, would be to wish the others a happy Administrative Professional's Day and try to work yourself into the group.
