How to tactfully enforce a dress code
Hello all,
I am writing because I can use some ideas. I am an Executive Assistant in a large company and I sit right in front of several Executive offices. Professionalism is a MUST in my department. There are many cubes in front of my area that hold new employees. My boss has given me the task to ensure that my floor looks neat, clean, and organized. There is one employee inparticular that I am seeing issues with. She has been wearing off the shoulder sweaters (it's July you know) and spaghetti strap halter tanks 2 sizes too small. It truly is distracting because it's all I can see. Our dress code policy states that those items are not allowed. How do I ask her or point it out to her that it is inappropriate attire when I am not her supervisor? I'm not here to make "friends" per say, but I don't want mortal enemies either. I'd like to take care of it before my boss comes to me and brings it up. Any ideas would be helpful!

Thanks and Happy Wednesday!

Re: How to tactfully enforce a dress code
Jenaszy, I have been in this situation before and it is very uncomfortable. Since you are not her boss, it is not your job to say anything directly to her. I would go to her immediate supervisor and ask her/him to handle it. A woman would be the best choice for this discussion. I know it sounds like you are pawning off this issue but it really isn't your place to tell someone how to dress.

If you have to say something to her, show her that you're not being mean, but that you're trying to save her from the embarassment of people talking about her behind her back. She's probably not even aware of her dress code violations.
