Behavioral Interview
Good Morning!
I'm trying to get as much information and practice related to Behavioral Interviweing; so I can learn, practice and get a new job in the Hotel Industry. I applied for a position as Group Sales Manager in a new property here in Puerto Rico. Although my direct hotel work experience dates back to 17 years ago, when I worked at a Hotel for 2 1/2 years, as credit & collections supervisor;during the past 17 years I did work as Meetings & Programs Manager at a large Pharmaceutical Co, in the Sales Division. So, I have much experience, many relationships in the meeting planning and Hotel industry with facilities and services. During my last job I was able to rise quickly from a credit assistant (secretary) to a managerial position and I was able to establish a full Meeting Planning with approved SOPs a secretary and two Meeting Planners under my supervision. However,I was recently separated (in April 2008) and I have been out of the job hunting/interviewing scene for a while. Besides this my own experience in hiring was on both occasions someone on an hourly basis, entry level. So, my questions to them were not too behaviorally based. I am not familiar with this type of interview. I have several stories related to my experience with some key themes which I think I may get asked. I would like to see if anyone can read them and let me know if they are a good match to the theme. Thank you!! Belinda |

Re: Behavioral Interview
This is great! I like how you have really thought out your responses to questions. My one recommendation would be to break out your answers into the STAR method so you make sure you are address each component of the response: Situation/Task, Action and Result.
Best of luck to you in your search! Keep us posted! |

Re: Behavioral Interview
I teach at a University here in St Louis..Interviewing and Counseling skills..Its really about timing and flow. Most employment interviews are both scheduled and unscheduled..meaning that they must ask prospective employees pretty much the same questions to be fair..Dress nicely and be yourself,, look people in the eye but dont stare..smile when you great them..get comfortable and relax,, you are not on trial for anything..dont go into detail about personal stuff....they have a time set aside for you and will lead the interview, all you have to do is sit back, relax and answer politely!
Best wishes on your journey..... |
