New Executive Assistant Position - Need Direction/Suggestions
I needs some direction...I'm starting this awesome new opportunity on Nov 7th as an Executive Assistant and I really want to be the best at it. I've been doing Admin work for about 19 years but never had an opportunity to show my creative side. This new position will allow me to do that so I want to go in very polished. I wondered if anyone had any resources that will help me excel in this new position. Ex: great ideas on how to handling the scheduling of an Outlook calendar. An idea that works! Another example is a international travel template. I created a template for domestic but my new manager travels internationally alot. I'm currently writing down questions that I want to ask my manager on the first day of work so I can get a field for the position and her work style. Ex: one of my questions is: What's currently working for you? Thank you in advance for any resources that will assist me in making this new position a successful one.

Your creative side is key to assisting your executive to succeed, but you are correct in asking what is working the best for her up to now. After a bit more time, maybe after New Year's, you can offer some suggestions for improvement that will be quite impressive for you, especially if they improve the quality or shorten the time for delivering certain needs she has. Microsoft offers wonderful HELP in Outlook as well as all their other software programs, so just do a bit of research to find out what you need to do. Also, you should be able to adapt your domestic travel template to accommodate her international travel. That's better than starting from scratch. Next, you got hired for who you are, and you will become better at doing this job, as you seek to fill all your boss's needs, using your expertise, and every means possible to increase your knowledge and skills in areas that need more input. It's key, however, that she knows you are focusing on filling all her needs, and not just showing off how wonderful you are.
