Hi, Lauriec,
I also just joined this site and it looks very interesting, doesn't it? In answer to your question, I am very happy with my career choice and couldn't see myself doing anything else. Sometimes it is very hectic, but that's part of the joy - every day is different! Good luck in your career~

Hi lauriec, Welcome to OA! So happy to have you here.

As a former Executive Assistant, I can tell you that it can be a very demanding, challenging and interesting position. I really enjoyed it...I think it depends on the person you're assisting though. If you have a strong relationship, it can make all the difference. I've known EAs who really weren't happy because the executive they were supporting was not supporting them. But all in all, as carolz said, every day is different. And that makes the position fun. Best of luck to you!

I agree that it all depends on who you're assisting. My last boss was incredibly supportive and took every moment she could tell me how much easier I was making her life. She was so happy to finally have someone she could trust to take care of things, that she found herself taking opportunities she never thought she could. No matter what I was doing on a day to day basis, I knew she was happy with my performance and if any troubles were to arise, I knew I had someone who would go to bat for me. I think being an assistant is one of the best jobs in the world simply because of the relationships that are formed. I hope you find the same in your endeavors.

Hello lauriec!

I also just joined this site a few minutes ago. It looks like it could be a great resource. I agree with the others that this can be a very rewarding and interesting job IF you have a good relationship with those you work with. If you like a fast-paced job that's never the same two days in a row, you'll enjoy being an assistant. Good luck and best wishes!

Re: Newbie
I'm going to agree with Chrissy and Libby, it depends a lot on who you support. For the most part, though, I've loved my career as an admin. I've worked in several different industries, giving me the opportunity to gain a great deal of background knowledge and to really spread my winds as an executive assistant. With the right boss, I thoroughly enjoy my job. I have enough experience now to get a good feel on an interview if I'll like the boss or not, and only take those offers where I think I'll have the right kind of relationship with the person I'm supporting. To me, that's the real key of being a happy admin, working for a boss who meshes with you personality and skills wise.

Edit to say: BTW, welcome to Office Arrow. This really is a great community. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Re: Newbie
I agree with the previous responses. Luckily for me, I have a great relationship with not only my boss but of the rest of the company as well. My boss has a lot going on and is constantly busy, which makes me constantly busy, but I love it! I love going home at night, knowing that I did something that day. It is hectic, it is demanding, there are times that I'd rather not be here, but the rewards outweigh all that. I'm not sure if I will be in this position forever, but I love the company I work for and I love the people that I see myself at this company throughout my career.
